Historic stone hut residing in what is now known as Strohles Flat, nearby to the Shotover River, Otago, New Zealand. The location a picturesque scene, especially in Autumn when the trees turn a golden colour. Named after “Otto Strohle” a swedish imigrant seeking fortune during the gold rushes. Otto built the hut in the 1870’s, the hut was rebuilt in the 1930s, it was used as a mustering camp until 1955, and then again restored in the 1960’s by the Wrights from Dunedin.
The Shotover River (Māori: Kimiākau) is located in the Otago region of the South Island of New Zealand, and is a 75-kilometre (47 mi) long river is fast flowing, with numerous rapids. The river flows generally south from the Southern Alps on its journey running through the Skippers Canyon, draining the area between the Richardson Mountains and the Harris Mountains, before flowing into the Kawarau River east of Queenstown.
