The Cascade River (Māori: Tahutahi) is a river of the South Island of New Zealand. It flows north for 30 kilometres (19 mi) from its source in Mount Aspiring National Park in the Southern Alps, forming a deep valley between the Olivine Range and Red Hills Range. Upper Durwood Falls is situated in a remote part of the Cascade River’s upper reaches, which are described as steep and technical terrain, with access primarily through challenging backcountry.
“Upper Durwood Falls, Cascade River, South Westland, New Zealand” was painted by Jonathan during the 1980’s and was featured in one of of his popular Calendar publications. A larger sized very powerful piece, this painting has been previously un-released and resided in Jonathan’s personal gallery.
